But I had a platonic male friend - irl - that I've never had a desire to date, and I know a big reason he rejected friendship and became very mean is (among other things) he would never want to fuck me.

It depends. 99% of times, the man is absolutely looking for something more - and it's almost never something romantic. If it's not sexual, it could be money if he sees you are a generous person, or it could be a manipulative move to try and trick other people around you that he's a good guy that everybody likes because 'look how lovely and friendly and liable this guy is - he's even friends with all the ugly fat girls at school/work!'. Men are very rarely what they seem on the surface.
Admittedly, I do have a male friend who was routinely raped by his father when he was a kid, and as shitty and awful as that was for him, he truly seems to have the sensibilities of a woman because of it. He's unlike the vast majority of men BECAUSE he suffered from men just as bad as a lot a women have. Not that this is true for most men that were molested or raped as children, not even a little bit, but this man specifically thinks a lot like a woman. Not that I give him the same treatment as one, but he's clearly not as bad as the rest.
