We have programs specially curated for grades K-5 (Minis) , grades 6-8 (Middles) , and finally grades 9-12 (Teens) . Introducing financial awareness to students from a young age helps pave the way to financial freedom.
Students will learn and understand the basics of money, how to earn and manage their money, when saving is important and when borrowing is appropriate. We want to help students see how they can turn their dreams about money into realistic goals.

What is the Pathway to Homeownership Program? The highly successful Pathway to Homeownership Program originated in 2021 as part of the region’s tornado recovery work, and in its first two phases, built 19 homes for first-time homebuyers.
The WPCU Sunshine Community Fund has committed to making an initial investment of $1.3 million to launch Phase III of the Pathway program in the Northwest Dayton Hope Zone. The WPCU Sunshine Community Fund’s anchor investment will enable the construction of new homes in Northwest Dayton for first-time, income-qualified buyers. Construction will begin on the first homes in summer 2025, with the goal of building 30 new homes over the next three years. These homes will be sold at market price, but eligible buyers will receive down payment and closing cost assistance to ensure that homeownership is accessible for local families. The Pathways to Homeownership Program needs to raise an additional $2.75 million within the first year to ensure long-term program sustainability.

As we prepare for 2026, we are finalizing our giving and grant-making plans. We appreciate your patience and are committed to ensuring organizations throughout our communities have what they need to make an impact. An update on 2026 funding plans will be available by the end of January.
The Program awards a $2,500 scholarship to at least two selected recipients each year. Recipients who are eligible and still enrolled in an undergraduate program at Wright State University or the University of Cincinnati may renew their scholarship for an additional $2,500 in funding for the following fall semester, which then becomes a total of $5,000 in total scholarship funding.

As a 501(c)(3) public foundation, it is the WPCU Sunshine Community Fund’s responsibility to work with nonprofits that will help improve, strengthen, and safeguard the financial security of vulnerable populations within our community by helping them to overcome societal structural barriers that limit their financial well-being.
As a result, the financial wellbeing building blocks outlined below are used to evaluate the possible impact a grant application can make on an individual’s or family’s financial wellbeing.
