PolicyMap is a national online mapping tool and platform that enables its customers to access data about communities and markets across the US. It is used for research, market studies, business planning, site selection, grant applications and impact analysis. We offer access to the PolicyMap tool through subscriptions and enterprise access, license the underlying data in our platform and help organizations and companies bring interactive mapping to their own websites. Launched in 2008, PolicyMap now has hundreds of customers, including federal, state and local government agencies, major universities, non-profit organizations, and commercial firms spanning real estate, banking and health care. The PolicyMap technical team is looking for an individual to initially work 10-20 hours/week for 1-2 months. If both sides determine it is a good fit, the position will transition to a full-time position. The Technical Specialist will work directly with our Lead Engineer in conducting research, and own follow-up, hands-on tasks using the following technologies in our stack:
The ideal candidate will have some experience and familiarity with the operations half of this stack, but we’re listing the entire stack to show that the work might extend into other technologies. The most important characteristic we are seeking is an eagerness to engage and learn about the technologies, to increase our knowledge base (and yours) and assist us in making informed decisions.
If the role transitions to full time, it will evolve to one with work on a range of tasks, which can change at any given time. Given the size of the team and the range of needs of the company, tasks can vary widely, and the right individual in this role will be flexible and curious and thrive on jumping into a range of responsibilities. A given month might include tasks as varied as learning Vite to address a code deficiency exposed by a penetration test, learning the details of the OIDC protocol to support the application becoming federated for SSO, supporting development of pipelines, assisting in aspects of security and future compliance requirements. Some tasks are well-defined and straightforward, while others require R&D to formulate and develop a solution.
