Ben & Jerryâs has long welcomed office employees to bring their dogs to work with them, so itâs only fitting that the Vermont-based company has finally created some frozen treats for these so-called â K9-5ers ââand your own furry colleagues, too.
As Cosmopolitan reports , Ben & Jerry's new line of âDoggie Dessertsâ was inspired by two K9-5ers in particular. â Rosieâs Batch ,â featuring pumpkin purée and mini cookies, is named for a mixed-breed rescue who loves going on walks and playing Frisbee. The namesake of â Pontchâs Mix ââfor peanut butter- and pretzel-loving poochesâis a spirited French bulldog from Florida who isnât too keen on New Englandâs snowy weather.
âWe know our fans love their dogs and treat them like family. We created this product line so pups can enjoy something even better than belly rubs. Doggie Desserts are the sweetest treat theyâll ever put their paws on,â Ben & Jerryâs global marketing specialist Lindsay Bumps said in a press release. (Bumps is also a trained veterinary technician and pet parent of K9-5er Spock , a close friend of Pontch's.)
As too much dairy isn't generally good for your pooch, Ben and Jerryâs used sunflower seed butter as the main âcreamyâ ingredient in the new dog-safe dessert line. The other ingredientsâwater, sugar, corn syrup, coconut oil, guar gum, etc.âare also found in Ben & Jerryâs products for humans. In other words, you can definitely try some of Rosieâs Batch or Pontchâs Mix yourselfâthough the company specifies that theyâre ânot labeled for human enjoyment.â That said, they're far from the weirdest ice cream flavors out there.
If youâre planning to pick up some Doggie Desserts during your next grocery run, look for them in the frozen section with the rest of Ben & Jerryâs desserts or else near the other frozen dog treats. Theyâll be sold as individual 4-ounce cups and in packs of four.
