All API requests require authentication using an API key. You can generate API keys from your dashboard .

API keys follow the format: pp_live_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Never share your API key or commit it to public repositories. Treat it like a password. If compromised, delete it immediately and generate a new one.

You can authenticate in two ways:

We provide official client libraries for Python and JavaScript/TypeScript. These handle authentication, polling, downloading, and error handling so you can generate 3D models with just a few lines of code.

Image to 3D, Text to 3D, multiple quality tiers, async polling, and comprehensive error handling.

Full TypeScript definitions, image & buffer uploads, progress callbacks, and Node.js 14+ support.

Get started in just a few minutes. The fastest way is with our official Python or JavaScript libraries.

For more control over the process, you can submit, poll, and download separately:

Submit an image to generate a 3D model with customizable quality and format options.

Generate 3D models from text descriptions using our AI. Available for default, high, and ultra quality levels.

Text to 3D is available for default , high , and ultra quality levels only. All high-resolution tiers ( super , superplus , superplus_1280 , superplus_1536 , and their texture variants) require an input image.

Poll the status of a 3D generation request to check if it's completed, processing, or failed.

Once generation is complete, download the generated 3D model file.

Returns a pre-signed URL to download the 3D model file. The URL expires after 1 hour.

Download URLs are valid for 1 hour. If your download fails, you can request a new URL by calling the download endpoint again. The SDK libraries handle this automatically.

To ensure fair usage and system stability, the following rate limits apply:

API requests consume credits based on the quality and complexity of the generation:

$1 = 100 credits • Example: $10 gets you 1000 credits = 250 default quality generations (20 seconds each), 50 super resolution generations (3 minutes each), 20 super+ resolution w/ texture generations (12 minutes each), or 10 super+ 1536³ resolution w/ texture generations (~25 minutes each)

All texture variants — Super Resolution w/ Texture , Super+ Resolution w/ Texture , Super+ 1280³ w/ Texture , and Super+ 1536³ w/ Texture — only support obj and glb formats. All geometry-only quality levels support stl , glb , obj , ply , and fbx (high-resolution tiers only). ⚠️ Important: When using obj format with texture generation, the API returns a ZIP archive containing the model.obj, material.mtl, and texture image files. You'll need to extract the ZIP to access the individual files. 🧪 v2.1 Models (1280³ & 1536³): The new v2.1 high-resolution tiers run on Hitem3D's latest model. Texture variants are produced without PBR (no metallic/roughness maps), only base color textures. Generations on these tiers can take noticeably longer than the legacy super/superplus tiers — expect 8 to 25 minutes depending on the variant.

All API credit purchases are final and non-refundable. Credits are deducted only upon successful generation submission.

The API uses standard HTTP status codes. Common codes include:

The official libraries provide typed exceptions for cleaner error handling:

The Python and JavaScript SDKs handle polling, retries, and error handling automatically. They're the fastest way to integrate with the PrintPal API.

When polling for status with raw HTTP, use exponential backoff to reduce API load. The SDKs handle this automatically.
