In 1915, some of historyâs most famous French artists were captured on film. Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Auguste Rodinâby then all in their 70s and 80sâappeared on film as part of a project on French artists by filmmaker Sacha Guitry. Collected by Open Culture (and spotted by Hyperallergic ), clips of the film show the painters and sculptor at work, at home, and walking through Paris.
The short snippets of history show the masters in some of their last days of work: Degas and Rodin died just two years later, while Renoir died in 1919 and Monet in 1926.
