All New Features Shown in Nintendo's Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Showcase - N4G

After teasing franchise fans with comments that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will change the game world, Eiji Aonuma, a game producer, has just showcased these features in a new video released by Nintendo .

The 13-minute gameplay demonstration showcases many of the elements we’ve seen in trailers for Tears of the Kingdom, but much we haven’t seen has now been revealed.

Here’s everything we learned from the Tears of the Kingdom showcase.

As showcased by Eiji Aonuma, Link has gained a range of all-new abilities to help him manipulate objects and defeat enemies in Tears of the Kingdom.

We have now seen the first of Link’s all-new abilities: Recall .

This ability can be used to control rock-like objects that can be lifted to reach Sky Islands , another new feature to be found in the world of Hyrule. Bound by a meter, Recall takes Link to all-new heights with the help of his paraglider and brand-new glide feature.

Resembling abilities that were achievable with the use of the Shiekah Slate in Breath of the Wild , Recall seems to be a more unique ability that Link now innately possesses.

Aonuma went on to demonstrate another of Link’s all-new abilities: Fuse .

Like Recall, the Fuse ability appears to be innate to Link in Tears of the Kingdom, allowing Link to take two objects and literally fuse them together to create more durable and accurate weapons and tools.

For example, Link can now fuse tree branches with boulders to create hammer-like objects that will aid him in battle, or imbue arrows with ice to freeze foes at a distance. Link can even combine Keese Eyeballs with arrows to hone in on his targets.

With the Fuse ability, Link can now take on a broader range of enemies, including some we haven’t seen before.

Similar to Link’s Fuse ability, his additional Ultrahand ability enables him to put multiple objects like logs together, creating useful items and tools. You can even use this ability to modify the shape of the tools you’re creating, perfecting your craft.

With Ultrahand, Link can easily craft tools like log rafts with wind-powered propellers that will allow him to cross large bodies of water.

Aonuma went on to confirm that the aircrafts and motorized vehicles we’ve seen in previous Tears of the Kingdom trailers can be crafted with Link’s Ultrahand ability as you progress through the game. Bound only by your imagination, you can craft endless tools with this game-changing ability.

An additional ability that Link now possesses in Tears of the Kingdom is Ascend . With this all-new ability, Link can phase through ceilings marked by green whirls of energy.

This ability works in a variety of terrain throughout Hyrule, and can even be used to phase through the ceilings of caves. This is particularly useful for reaching new locations that you may not be able to reach without the Ascend ability. However, it can also be used in place of climbing.

More N4G Unlocked: All New Enemies in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

While we play as Link in Tears of the Kingdom, we’ll encounter all-new enemies that we haven’t yet seen in past titles.

One such enemy is called a Construct . One-eyed and mechanical in appearance, these foes can be encountered from early on in Tears of the Kingdom. They also have to ability to wield fused weapons, so battles with them will play out much differently than we’ve seen in previous entries.

Based on what Aonuma has demonstrated in the Tears of the Kingdom showcase, it’s safe to say he wasn’t kidding about the new entry changing the game world. We have all this and more to look forward to with the release of Tears of the Kingdom on May 12, 2023.
