Sales tax holidays are put in place to encourage consumer spending by temporarily eliminating sales tax on certain retail purchases. These temporary tax exemptions can significantly reduce costs on essential goods, back-to-school supplies, and various other items, making them a great time for shoppers to save money.
For businesses, understanding and preparing for these sales tax holidays is important, as they can impact your sales tax compliance strategy. Many states have set annual sales tax holidays, while others are required by state law to renew these holidays each year. Certain states have announced sales tax holidays but have not yet released a date for 2025. Throughout the year we’ll update this post as states add additional holidays.
