When cooking rice on a stovetop, there is the chance that excessive heat on the bottom of a pot or pan could possibly scorch your rice if you’re not paying attention. With the microwave method, you don’t have to keep a constant eye on the grains and you also typically don’t get stuck cleaning pots of sticky, stuck-on rice.

For 1000-1200 watt microwaves, cook on high for 15 minutes uncovered. Cover tightly to microwave again for another 10 minutes on high. For less powerful microwaves (700 to 900 watts) start your cook time at 20 minutes uncovered at 50% power and again for 10 minutes with the lid on.

Carefully remove your rice from the microwave—it will be hot! Keep it covered and let it sit for 6 minutes. When the time has elapsed, carefully uncover your rice and fluff it with a fork. Your rice is ready!
