Find Neighborhoods Facing Health Disadvantages with the Area Deprivation Index
To help identify neighborhoods that are most health-disadvantaged , we’ve added a new dataset to PolicyMap to help researchers, policymakers, and practitioners guide resources and outreach efforts to the places that need it the most. This information is provided by the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH) Center for Health Disparities Research, who have published the Area Deprivation Index to summarize the socioeconomic conditions that can contribute to poor health outcomes .
Visualizing Racial and Ethnic Diversity
PolicyMap has updated the Diversity Index and Predominant Race/Ethnicity data to 2020, the latest 5-year ACS time frame. Visualizing racial and ethnic diversity across the nation at various geographic levels is a powerful tool for digging deeper into socioeconomic gaps and trends.
New Indicators for Housing Needs Assessment
This month the Housing Solutions Lab at the NYU Furman Center rolled out updates to the Housing Needs Assessment Tool (HNAT created in partnership with PolicyMap. The interactive online resource now includes three measures to help policymakers identify and address community housing disparities: 1. Share of Renter Households Moderately or Severely Cost Burdened by Race/Ethnicity 2. Average Neighborhood Poverty Rate by Race/Ethnicity 3. Average Neighborhood Poverty Rate by Federally Subsidized Housing Type Stay tuned! These indicators will soon be available on PolicyMap for all users.
