Kimberly Nasworthy: TalkingParents Real Co-Parents Series

Kimberly is a divorced mom who says TalkingParents has helped her co-parenting conversations with her ex become more organized, child-focused, and peaceful.

I’m able to focus on the important things, and I can be present. I don’t have to worry about “How am I gonna word this? How am I gonna communicate this?” It’s just it’s super easy now, and I don’t have to stress about it. And so when I’m around my kids, they get a completely different version of me now. So my co-parent and I, we were together from 2010 until the end of 2019, and we tried to briefly reconcile the beginning of 2020, but ultimately, a divorce was the right path for everybody, especially the kids. We had two kids together, and ultimately, divorce came down to it was just a lot of high conflict and communication break down. After divorce, communication escalated quickly to where it created a lot of instability and anxiety for myself, but also for the children. They could see the stress and they could feel the tension, and I didn’t want cycles to repeat themselves. So we actually got introduced to TalkingParents through Family Court. It reduced anxiety and stress a lot because it was in one platform, and I didn’t have to worry about getting text messages all throughout the night. And the stress and the anxiety of opening those messages. It was an immediate yes for me because then it had everything that I needed, and I was able to not have to rely on texting each other, and it had to be there. And so it reduced the anxiety and the stress that comes along with miscommunication. I think we both struggled with everything else that happened to keep it child focused. So over the last year and a half, I started using making the threads. That’s been the most useful because, I know with, like, my cell phone personally, like, I scroll too far back, it, like, glitches and then everything starts all over. That’s really frustrating. So with TalkingParents, you have the same type of threads, but you can make individual ones, whether it’s for months or certain events. And that’s made that super easy because me and my co-parent now, we can actually go, like, four or five months without communicating. So it’s so much easier to find what we talked about in the past, and it’s just made it so much simpler. So recently, I started using the Assist, the Sentiment Assist. I really like that one because I started using AI about a year and a half ago to help structure my messages or my answer because I wanted to be sure that they were what you guys now provide, the positive and the neutral and the negative. And so that’s been amazing because then I just do it right then and there. And then if I’m still unsure, to use the gray or the yellow rock, that’s a great feature. I think that’s gonna help immensely in everyone’s co-parenting journey to help reduce conflict. I would absolutely recommend it for any any co-parenting situation. It doesn’t even have to be high conflict.

Kimberly Nasworthy has two children with her ex-husband. She and her ex were married for 9 years before divorcing.

“We briefly tried to reconcile, but our divorce ultimately came down to a lot of high conflict and communication breakdowns. It escalated quickly after the divorce and created a lot of instability and anxiety.”

She says the stress and tension didn’t just affect her and her ex—it impacted their kids, too.

“They could see the stress and feel the tension. Overall, it just wasn’t a safe environment for them. I wanted to make sure we got the help we needed to support them and support ourselves emotionally, because I didn’t want cycles to repeat themselves.”

Kimberly says she was introduced to TalkingParents in family court during a high-conflict situation, and that having communication in one place made an immediate difference.

“Once TalkingParents was introduced, it was an immediate yes for me. It reduced my anxiety and stress a lot because everything was on one platform. I didn’t have to worry about getting text messages all throughout the night or the stress and anxiety I felt before opening them.”

Over time, she and her co-parent learned to keep conversations focused on their kids rather than themselves.

It took a while for us to really get used to keeping it child-focused. Sometimes we would drift into other topics, and it took us time to gain momentum and use it correctly. But once we did, it’s been great. It’s reduced a lot of frustration and a lot of conflict, because we’re trying to make sure it’s about what the kids need and how we can support them.

While all of the app’s features have helped with organization, Kimberly says that Secure Messaging is her favorite.

“With my cell phone, it glitches and starts over if I scroll too far back in past messages. With TalkingParents, I can make individual threads for certain months or events. It’s so much easier to find what we talked about in the past, especially since my co-parent and I can go a few months without communicating.”

Within messages, she’s also found the new Sentiment Scanner + Writing Assist℠tool helps her slow down and consider how a message might be perceived—all within a single feature.

“I started using AI about a year and a half ago to help structure my messages, because I wanted to make sure they were as neutral and positive as possible. Now it’s all in one place. That’s been amazing, because I can do it right then and there. I think it’s going to help immensely in anyone’s co-parenting journey to reduce conflict.”

For Kimberly, the most meaningful change has been feeling much lighter as a parent, because she’s no longer constantly bracing for the next difficult message. She says reducing communication stress has helped her be more present with her kids.

“I don’t feel like I’m walking on eggshells when it comes to communication—I can be the mom I’ve always wanted to be. I can be present, and I don’t have to stress about how I’m going to word something or how I’m going to communicate it. When I’m around my kids, they get a completely different version of me. I’m not stressed or worried, and they get to see the lighter, happier, healed mom. That’s all that I care about.”
