BTU output for a gas dryer varies based on the make, model, capacity and loading styles of your appliance. In general, the average gas dryer BTU output is between 20,000 and 22,000 BTUs/hr.
The heat burner BTU for your gas dryer should be listed in your owner’s manual. If you’re shopping for a new gas dryer, you can usually find heat burner BTUs listed in the product specifications online or a spec sheet posted near the appliance in-store.
A higher BTU rating means more energy output from the heat burner and, all other factors being equal, could mean faster drying times. However, BTU is just one factor in the dryer system and may not be a clear cut measure to shop by. For example, a larger dryer drum with more room for clothes to tumble, or specific dryer settings can also contribute to faster drying times. As a general rule of thumb, look for gas dryers within the typical range of 20,000 to 22,000 BTU/hr.
