We start with a lesser-known but much-loved attraction: visiting a full-scale replica of an 18th-century sailing ship! From the upper deck to the cargo hold, kids can explore every corner and imagine life as a sailor.
The ship is a faithful reconstruction of a Dutch East India Company vessel. You’ll find the captain’s cabin, food supplies (lots of cheese!), cannons, barrels, and sailors’ hammocks.
This immersive adventure is available daily at the Maritime Museum from 9 AM to 5 PM. Entry is free for children under 12, €8.50 for teens up to 17, and €18.50 for adults.
Exploring Amsterdam by boat is a great alternative to walking, especially with kids. A one-hour cruise offers beautiful views of the city’s gabled houses, often with an audio guide to explain the history.
In warmer months, you can rent a pedal boat and explore the canals at your own pace. These rides usually last 60 to 90 minutes and cost around €20 per boat.
The Royal Palace on Dam Square is still used for official royal events, but it’s also a fascinating place for families. Originally built as a city hall in the 17th century, it’s full of intriguing details.
