The FIU Panthers come into the 2026 season looking to build on a solid 2025 season, finishing the year at 7-6 overall including a 5-3 mark in CUSA play. The year culminated with a loss to UTSA, 57-20 in the First Responder Bowl. The QB1 spot still needs to be sorted out with JJ Kohl coming in from App State and Zach Marker coming over from Delaware with Kohl logging a 12-2 TD-INT ratio while MArker is a career 13-2 TD-INT. On defense, edge rusher Kenton Simmons had a team-high 6 sacks and Josiah Taylor is back to anchor the linebacking crew in the middle.
The USF Bulls come into the 2026 season looking to add on to their solid 2025 campaign that ended at 9-4 including a 6-2 mark in AAC play and ending with a 24-10 loss to Old Dominion in the Cure Bowl. The Bulls would lose coach Alex Golesh to Auburn and with that a lot of the talent that was there last season. Brian Hartline takes over coaching duties for the Bulls, and Michael Van Buren and Luke Kormenhoek transfer in from LSU and Mississippi State respectively to battle for QB1 duties. On defense, there’s a lot of turnover there as well with a lot of talent coming in through the portal. Zavier Hamilton is back for USF at linebacker while being surrounded by transfers at all three levels.
I think both teams are going to find their legs in this matchup, but I’m laying the points with USF in this one because I just think while both teams profile similarly, the Bulls are just a better version of FIU. I think USF will own the lines and have the edge at QB so give me USF laying the points.
