Cyberattacks on charging infrastructure are on the rise and pose new challenges for operators, planners, and manufacturers. With CHARX control modular, you can rely on an e-mobility charging controller that has been developed from the ground up for maximum safety. State-of-the-art protection mechanisms, encrypted communication, and regular software updates ensure that your charging points are reliably protected against manipulation, data misuse, and failures. At the same time, you meet all current and future legal requirements - and thus create the basis for a future-proof, trustworthy, charging infrastructure.
Charging infrastructure is a critical infrastructure and is increasingly the target of cyber attacks. Manipulation, failures, data misuse, and attacks on back-end systems can lead to financial losses, damage to image, and network instability.
The most common risks include denial-of-service attacks (outages), manipulation of billing data, phishing (e.g. forged QR codes), ransomware, data leaks, and unauthorized access to user data.
The European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) make cybersecurity measures for networked products such as the EVSE charging controller mandatory. Relevant standards include EN 18031, IEC 62443-4-2, and ISO 15118.
CHARX control modular ...
CHARX control modular is already RED-compliant and is in preparation for CRA compliance. Regular software updates, vulnerability management (including SBOM and Product Security Incident Response Team process), and a roadmap for implementing new standards such as IEC 62443 and OCPP 2.0.1 Security ensure long-term security.
The conformity of the controller is an important component block. Operators are obliged to regularly check the entire charging infrastructure for cybersecurity and regulatory requirements. CHARX control modular supports you with documentation and guidelines.
CHARX control modular enables you to meet all current and future requirements for publicly accessible charging points. Compatibility with state-of-the-art cloud-based payment providers means you can offer spontaneous charging and payment (ad hoc payment) by credit/debit/giro card or QR code - without any app or contract and therefore fully AFIR-compliant. At the same time, you ensure transparent, tamper-proof billing by kilowatt hour, tamper-proof metering, and digital verification in accordance with German calibration law. With integrated plug-and-charge functionalities (ISO 15118-ready), you can provide your customers with maximum convenience and future-proofing. This creates a convenient charging experience and puts you on the safe side legally.
The Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) is an EU regulation that has been in force since April 2024. It obliges operators to enable ad-hoc charging and simple, non-discriminatory payment (e.g. by debit/credit card or QR code) at publicly accessible charging points. From 2026/27, ISO 15118 functions (plug-and-charge) will also be mandatory – and CHARX control modular already fulfills this today.
New public AC charging points must offer at least one widely used cashless payment method - such as debit/credit card, Girocard, or a secure QR code. Payment must be possible without prior registration or app.
The German calibration law (Measurement and Calibration Regulation – MessEG/MessEV) stipulates that billing at charging points must be carried out accurately and transparently by kilowatt hour (kWh). The measured values and invoice data must be stored in a tamper-proof manner and be accessible to the customer. Where calibration law applies, only charging stations that comply with calibration law may be operated.
The calibration law currently only applies in Germany, but similar regulations are in preparation in other countries such as France, Italy, and Spain or have already been implemented in some cases. The calibration law applies to all operators of charging points where charging processes are remunerated - i.e. wherever electricity is not given away. There are only exceptions for purely private use without billing.
Plug-and-charge enables automatic authentication and payment directly via the charging cable. In accordance with ISO 15118-2, Powerline Communication (PLC) is used for this, i.e., the data is exchanged between the vehicle and the charging point via the power lines of the charging cable. ISO 15118-2 will be mandatory for new public charging points from January 2026. This function has been available with CHARX control modular since Q1 2026.
Look for certified hardware and software that meets all payment, calibration law, and ISO 15118 requirements. CHARX control modular is already prepared for all current and future requirements and supports you in their implementation.
Charging infrastructure for e-mobility is considered taxonomy-compliant and can be designated as a sustainable economic activity if defined criteria are met. The central requirements of the EU taxonomy include:
With CHARX control modular as an intelligent link between charging infrastructure and energy management, you create the conditions for a smart, sustainable overall system. The AC charging controller enables optimal integration into the smart grid, supports the implementation of the EU taxonomy, and makes sustainable e-mobility measurable and future-proof for your company.
Taxonomy-compliant means that the e-mobility charging infrastructure – if it meets defined EU criteria – is considered a sustainable economic activity. This makes reporting easier, improves the chances of funding, and makes sustainability measurable.
CHARX control modular is the intelligent link between charging infrastructure and energy management. The EVSE controller enables the integration of renewable energies, efficient load management, and connection to smart grids. Central requirements of the EU taxonomy are thus technically supported and documentable.
Advanced energy management – for example through intelligent control, dynamic load management, and the use of PV systems – helps to meet the environmental targets of the EU taxonomy. CHARX control modular enables optimum control and documentation of these processes.
Companies benefit from better eligibility for funding, more attractive financing conditions, and a stronger sustainable image. They also become future-proof in regulatory terms and fulfill increasing ESG and reporting obligations.
With CHARX control modular, relevant operating data, energy flows, and the integration of renewable energies can be documented transparently. This enables you to prove compliance with the EU taxonomy criteria to investors, banks, and authorities.
In line with the EU taxonomy, climate protection, resource efficiency, and the promotion of renewable energies in particular are addressed by an intelligent, controllable AC charging infrastructure.
