Hapag-Lloyd has announced a Marine Emergency Surcharge (MES) on cargo bound for Aden, which will be moved from Jeddah through an alternative feeder service due to the ongoing situation around Bab el-Mandeb.
The surcharge is set at USD 1,700 per 20ft and USD 3,400 per 40ft dry container, USD 2,200 per 20ft and USD 4,400 per 40ft reefer container, and USD 2,500 per 20ft and USD 5,000 per 40ft for dangerous goods.
Cargo currently in Jeddah will be moved to Aden on a third-party feeder service, and customers will handle customs clearance and cargo pickup once the containers arrive.
The new surcharge is added on top of ocean freight, the War Risk Surcharge (WRS), and any other port-related charges.
