Led by a qualified mental health professional, you will work together to better understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in order to make changes to improve your wellbeing. You will not be asked to talk about your difficulties in detail – group therapy focuses more on how you have been affected by your experiences and giving you tools to help you manage this in a way that lessens the impact on your mental health.
By the end of your treatment, we aim to give you the skills to overcome your current concerns long-term.
Listen and learn in a supportive space with people who understand how you feel, and start your path to feeling better today.
Before you commit to group therapy, we understand you may want to learn more about this type of treatment. Here are some of our most frequently asked questions about group therapy.
Group therapy within ‘Therapy for You’ is a type of support wherein a group of people meet with 2 qualified therapists to learn how our thoughts, feelings and behaviours impact our mental wellbeing and what skills and techniques we can use to change this. This is carried out in a friendly, supportive and confidential environment.
When you attend a group therapy session, you can listen and share the impact of the difficulties you are facing, with others who are dealing with similar concerns or challenges as you. However, there will never be any obligation for you to speak in the sessions. Through these sessions, our aim is to help you develop lasting techniques that will aid your mental health long after your sessions have ended.
Working in a group can also be a very supportive environment and may help encourage you to practise the techniques you learn during treatment, empowering you to effectively manage your wellbeing now and in the future.
Finally, group therapy is a welcoming, safe environment that tends to encourage people to be more open and honest about how they are feeling. As well as helping you on the path to feeling better, this can boost your confidence in other areas of your life, and potentially even form friendships with your peers.
During group therapy, you will never be asked to share any information you are not comfortable with and will never be forced to talk. We do recommend that everyone engage with the group as much as possible, to get the most benefit from it, but there will be no pressure for you to speak in the sessions, if you would prefer not to.
Group therapy generally can be described as focusing on the impact of your experiences, rather than your experiences themselves, so you will not need to discuss these in detail. We find that having a space to discuss how you are coping and the changes you have begun to make as the therapy progresses can be hugely motivational and supportive.
We currently run a range of groups to support people with different mental health needs, including:
To create a safe and inviting space for all, privacy is an essential part of group therapy. All participants enter the group with the understanding that they must respect the confidentiality of others during and after treatment.
