This includes your year and house for a student character, any involvement with a faction and even listing if your character is unemployed. Read up on our restrictions then explore this page to find your characters dream job or, if you want to be a little meaner, make them miss out and have to do a job they hate. It's your story!
With such an active and large site, we have added some restrictions just so we can spread the love around and let everyone have a chance at that popular position or ability. Please read our restrictions carefully and be sure to reserve as soon as you know what you want as popular positions/abilities can fill up quickly!
Only ONE out of every four characters is allowed to have one of the listed abilities. This means that if you make an animagus (for example), your next three characters will need to have NO ability before you're able to have another. Vampires must not be students, and only four (4) Werewolves on the list can be students. You cannot claim the abilities of Animagus , Legilimens/ Occlumens , Dark Witch or Dark Wizard with any character under the age of 18, regardless of your intentions for their future. This also includes characters that are still students on Hogwarts' grounds, regardless of age. While such things can be studied, it is highly unlikely that your character will be a master of them for a long time and without years of study and practice.
The Brotherhood requires all core members to be aged 25+ while their seconds can be 18+ (so long as they are NOT still in school). Please don't make your very first character one of these as we need to see proven activity before you can apply. Sirens are required to be 25+ as well. SSS and GOLD Have no limits except for age, 18+. Important Positions When it comes to important character job positions that need a separate application; you'll have to be an active member for at least 2 Activity Checks (roughly 4-6 months) before you can apply. Reminderhowever this does not guarantee that you will get said position.
We allow six characters per room, per year in order to keep things realistically proportioned. To become a Prefect , your character is required to have a minimum of 25 posts before you can claim. Head Boy/Girl are voted on at the end of each year from those who put their name forward. These characters need at least 50 posts. Quidditch is open to students from third year, but captains must be fifth or above.
To become a professor your character needs to be a minimum age of 25+. Heads of House must be 30+ and Headmaster/mistress must be 40+. We ask that no one player have more than one professor. To be on the Board of Governors your character must be 30+.
The Minister of Magic must be aged 40+. as do Heads of Department . Aurors undergo three years of training so must be 21+, the same as Wizengamot members. Chief Wix of Wizengamot and Supreme Mugwump must be 50+. All other general positions in the ministry require characters to have interned for a minimum of two years before they are deemed fully qualified. This does not need to be played out on board. You will just need to keep this in mind in your characters history.
As Healers train for six years, they need to be 23+ to be fully qualified. Before this, they will be trainees. Healers in charge should be 30+ and the Head Healer should be 40+.
While we prefer members to fill canon vacancies first if possible, we have no restrictions for this area.
As for Hogwarts, we require Professors to be a minimum of 25 years old.
We have no limits in this area, but do take into account the amount of certain vocations when planning your character so we can try to be as diverse as possible.
Pro players are Reserves for a minimum of one year before they become full members. To be on the Main roster your character should be 20+. To be a Captain they need to be 25+. We ask that members only have one Owner so others get a chance. If your character has played Quidditch in the 7th Year and has won the Quidditch Cup, they may join the main roster upon graduation. If they have played for at least 2 years and won any 2 years (3rd-6th Year), they may be on the main roster upon graduation.
A small amount of positions cannot be reserved as they require an application form. These positions are: Professor Head of House Headmaster/Mistress Brotherhood Siren Quidditch Captain Head Boy/Girl Minister for Magic Muggle Prime Minister To apply for any of the above, the form can be found HERE All other positions can be reserved for seven days while you finish up your application by using this code below and replying to this thread . If you're reserving multiple positions, please put them all in the same post. Character Name : Player Name : Ability/Position : today's date
Once your application has been accepted, you will need to claim your positions and/or abilities by replying to This thread using the code below. This should be done within 48 hours of your application being accepted. As with reserves, if you are claiming multiple things, please put them all in the same post. Character Name : Ability/Position We cannot give your character their colours until all required lists are signed.
Got a question about this list? Hopefully you can find the answer here. If not, please contact a staff member and they will be happy to help you! Why do you have limits on abilities? Not every single character is going to have some special ability and we think it'd be pretty darn boring if every character you met was the same! This is why we have a limit to each type so everyone gets a chance to have an ability and also allows our site to be more diverse. In the future, if we find abilities to be constantly full, we will look at raising the limits to allow more people to participate. Why do I have to apply to be a {insert special job here}? Some jobs on the site are more plot intensive (not more important!) than others and that means we'd like to see a little extra effort in what makes them tick. This helps us to provide a strong story for everyone to play in. Why is there an age limit on certain jobs? In a nutshell? Realism. While we're well aware that this is roleplay, not real, we like to strive for at least a little believability here. That's why you won't find 18yo professors or 16yo superstar quidditch players. We're here to tell a story and we want a wide variety of characters here to help us. What if I want an ability that's not on the list? So long as it's canon, then we're generally open to all kinds of abilities. If they're not on the list it usually means we just have no limit on them and encourage people to make as many as they want. This includes House Elves, Centaurs, Dark Wizards, etc. If in doubt, don't be afraid to ask a staff member. Can I create my own shop? Absolutely. While we do want to see canon shops being used and filled, you're more than welcome to have your own shop on our list. We allow a maximum of two staff spaces for non canon shops, so have fun! My character is unemployed. Do I still have to sign this list? Yes. Please sign so we have a complete picture of characters on board. The unemployed list also serves as a great place for people offering jobs to find characters who might want to fill them. Does this list cater to genderfluid characters? We definitely do. While most of our listing is sorted into male and female, we also have a colouring for those who identify as something different. We generally call these characters Wix instead of Witch or Wizard and they are given a neutral purple colour instead of pink or blue. If you want your character listed as Wix, just let us know.
The vast majority of the characters in Harry Potter's world are normal(!) human beings. But it may be that you are interested in playing a non-human character, or one with certain special abilities. If so, there are several different kinds of character you could create. If you are interested in a type of character not on one of these lists, please check our FAQ or speak to our Staff.
What story doesn't need heroes and villains? Good vs Evil is a recurring theme pretty much everywhere and TNI is no exception. These four faction are the core of our overarching site plot but they may not all be as easy to classify as good and bad. While the Brotherhood have committed terrible crimes, their belief in freedom for all magical beings is seen as 'good' by many. The SSS, with their rage against the magic users who hurt countless muggles are justified in seeking revenge...aren't they? GOLD is still forming in the background but they are determined to bring peace to the wizarding world while the Sirens are hellbent on serving the brothers and helping them to see a change in the balance of power.
Making a student character can be a lot of fun! Not only do you get to go to Hogwarts, you get to forge friendships that can last right into your adult years. Imagine the years of roleplay ahead of you! How rewarding, too, to see your character grow and mature from nervous and shy little first year to confident and bold young adult? So long as there's room, you can choose any year group you wish. As for houses, you may choose any you wish or, if you're more adventurous, you can visit our Sorting Hat and get sorted instead. Our student lists are coloured accordingly for boy and girl, but if you have a non binary character just let us know and we can give them our neutral colouring. We'll also put them into the room that you prefer. Male or Female.
If you want to be a house Prefect or want to see if there are any vacancies for your house quidditch team, this is the page to be. This is also where Transfer Students are listed.
Your student can transfer from any of the approved canon schools listed here, but please provide a logical explanation. If your student is a UK resident they would attend Hogwarts!
Established around the 10th century, Hogwarts is considered to be one of the finest magical institutions in the Wizarding World. Hogwarts has in its faculty an abundance of wise and talented professors. Each specialises in a specific subject. Other staff positions include that of a school nurse, caretaker, librarian, and groundskeeper. If you are wanting to become a member of Hogwarts' Staff, vacancies are found here.
Your adult needs a job if they want to have that whole money and place to live thing and a large majority choose to work at The Ministry of Magic. Ministry of Magic workers can be newly graduated or seasoned, but please take into account your characters age and experience when choosing a job.
Wizard doctors are known as Healers and Mediwizards. While small infirmaries exist, such as the Hogwarts hospital wing, there may be different ranks of nurses like there is in the Muggle world. There are Healers at Quidditch games as well. The central establishment in England for this purpose is St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries where various magical diseases, such as "dragon pox", "spattergroit" and "Vanishing Sickness" are treated. Healers also treat problems ranging from animal bites to cauldron explosions. Healers train for six years to become fully qualified.
Tapping just the right brick in the wall behind the Leaky Cauldron in London ("Three up...two across...") will reveal an archway which is a portal into Diagon Alley, a long cobbled street where is to be found a strange and exciting assortment of shops and restaurants. It is unquestionably the hub of commerce in the British wizarding world, with virtually every wizarding business stationed there. Consequently, the demand for space here is steep, and rent costs "loads of Galleons". Each store here, including non canon, is given two employee slots only. The only exceptions are large companies like The Daily Prophet and Gringott's. (This will be grandfathered in)
Just around the corner from Diagon Alley lies a dark, twisting alleyway devoted to the Dark Arts: Knockturn Alley. It's a place that children are not allowed in, and with good reason; not only are the wares sold there a bit dodgy, but the wizards hanging around behave fairly suspiciously as well. From the shops and the street vendors one can purchase, among other things, shrunken heads, poisonous candles, human-looking fingernails, and Flesh-Eating Slug Repellent.
Hogsmeade is the only entirely wizarding village in Britain. According to tradition it was founded over a thousand years ago, around the same time as Hogwarts, by Hengist of Woodcroft as he was fleeing persecution by Muggles. It's a picturesque little village of thatched cottages and shops, with enchanted candles hanging in the trees during the holidays. As Hogsmeade is located just down the road from Hogwarts, the school and the village have always shared a special relationship. On select Saturdays throughout the school year the village is filled with Hogwarts students who are allowed to visit beginning in their third year. Some of the Hogwarts staff visit more frequently.
Established in 2006, Myrddin Academy is the realisation of a dream to offer young Witches and Wizards the chance to further their education before starting a career, giving them a valuable opportunity to excel and to hone their skills. Students are offered courses in seven speciality departments designed to give them a head start on their chosen career, be it as an Auror, a Healer, a Professor and more. Not every witch and wizard works in the Ministry, St Mungo's, Hogwarts or the other mentioned locations. Some jobs are more generally located and some jobs aren't even in the wizarding world! If your characters job doesn't fit in any of the other places (or if they don't have a job at all!), they'll be listed here. Don't feel limited to what's listed! If you need a new section added, just ask!
Looking for a more glamorous job? Professional quidditch scouts often recruit from schools so if you've been playing your best you should keep an eye out for offers! This is a life of the rich and famous, but it's short lived with most retiring by the time they're 35. Still, enjoy it while you can!
