The Marvellous Land of Snergs
"This children's fantasy novel is set on a fictional, hard-to-reach island somewhere on planet Earth. The island is host to a colony of children, a wicked witch, the crew of the Flying Dutchman, and the titular snergs—as well as unicorns, tigers, bears, ghouls, and dragons that live in the woods. The story follows Sylvia and Joe on an adventure gone wrong once they're taken captive by an ogre, Golithos, and the aforementioned wicked witch: Mother Meldrum. Gorbo the Snerg and Baldry, a court jester, must come to their aid. Published in Britain in 1927, the novel was originally written for the author's young children and follows in the footsteps of J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan and Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. It is widely believed the snergs served as inspiration for J. R. R. Tolkien's hobbits."
E. A. Wyke-Smith (Author), Gildart Jackson (Narrator)

The Travels and Adventures of Little Baron Trump
"Ingersoll Lockwood invented the fictional character Baron Trump in 1890 for a two-part sci-fi/fantasy series about a privileged German heir who undertakes a sequence of fantastic voyages. The style of the Baron Trump series-a mix of fantasy and young-reader-oriented science fiction-anticipated and may have influenced L. Frank Baum's Oz series. The Travel and Adventures of Little Baron Trump describes Baron's trip around the world with his little dog Bulger, meeting new races like the Wind Eaters, Man Hoppers, Round Bodies, and Melodious Sneezers, in as yet undiscovered lands. The unusual prescience of Ingersoll's narrative has given rise to a conspiracy theory that U.S. President Donald Trump has had access to a time machine."

"The Jungle Book is a collection of stories, originally published in magazines in the late 1800s, which involve animals with anthropomorphic characteristics to convey moral lessons. The most famous of these stories involve a young Indian boy named Mowgli who was raised by wolves in the Indian Jungle. He and his friends Baloo, a sloth bear, and Bagheera, a black panther, go on many adventures culminating to a fight with the jungle's bully, the tiger Shere Khan. Containing other famous stories such as Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and Toomai of the Elephants, this collection of Rudyard Kipling's most famous stories encompasses his time living in India and the wonders of the Indian jungle."
A Tale of Two Cities
"Unjustly imprisoned for 18 years in the Bastille, Dr. Alexandre Manette is reunited with his daughter, Lucie, and safely transported from France to England. It would seem that they could take up the threads of their lives in peace. As fate would have it though, the pair are summoned to the Old Bailey to testify against a young Frenchman - Charles Darnay - falsely accused of treason. Strangely enough, Darnay bears an uncanny resemblance to another man in the courtroom, the dissolute lawyer's clerk Sydney Carton. It is a coincidence that saves Darnay from certain doom more than once. Brilliantly plotted, the novel is rich in drama, romance, and heroics that culminate in a daring prison escape in the shadow of the guillotine."

"Great Expectations charts the progress of Pip from childhood through often painful experiences to adulthood, as he moves from the Kent marshes to busy, commercial London. He encounters along the way a variety of extraordinary characters ranging from Magwitch, the escaped convict, to Miss Havisham, locked up with her unhappy past and living with her ward, the arrogant, beautiful Estella. Pip must discover his true self, and his own set of values and priorities. Whether such values allow one to prosper in the complex world of early Victorian England is the major question posed by Great Expectations, one of Dickens's most fascinating and disturbing novels."
