A collection of five adventures in the life of Arkle, the irrepressible railway cat. He gets snow-bound, he saves a life from an out-of-control train, he is kidnapped and taken to London, and he has his usual scrapes and run-ins with Hack, the leading railman at the station.
Phyllis Arkle was born and educated in Chester. In 1959 she moved to the Thames Valley village of Twyford in Berkshire, where she wrote the Railway Cat amongst many other books for children. She died in 1997.
