In a story reminiscent of The Gruffalo , this stylish book builds tension via repetition and suspense to a very funny, unexpected ending. Mouse spots a nut high up in a tree and, ‘Mmmmm’, shakes the trunk a little to the left, a little to the right in order to dislodge it. Imagine her surprise – and ours – when not the nut but a fox falls out of the tree.
Now it’s the mouse’s turn to be a tasty treat and she quickly takes refuge in the branches. When fox shakes the tree, he too finds himself in trouble, and so on, until at last someone shakes everyone plus nut to the ground. The minimalist illustrations hold the eye, and the punchline lends itself to repeat readings and it’s great fun, especially when the layout asks readers to turn the book sideways to see the full length of the tree. ~ Andrea Reece

Praise for Black Cat, White Cat:
Sweet, smart and completely charming, these little books contain very big ideas. -- Junior Junior
Juxtaposition is key throughout this seemingly simple, visually striking book. By using only black and white the focus is always on the visual play between the characters, their backgrounds, the placing of the images on the spreads and the contrasting space around them. Genius! -- Jill Bennet Red Reading Hub
It's a visual treat, a highly stylised, beautiful object to both hold and feast your eyes upon. Also, I love that orange comma - if you buy the book & you should, you'll find out why. Magpie That blog
Visually striking and packed with the adventurous spirit of youth, Black Cat, White Cat explores opposites, new experiences, and the very different but special someone you can share those experiences with. A warm, appealing story with pictures that speak as loud as words... Lancashire Evening Post
A straightforward and playful book revisiting the archetypal encounter of opposites that, through the use of clever, minimalistic graphics, gives birth to a simple and endearing tale of friendship. This book is a sensitive reminder that wonderful things can happen by being curious, open-minded, and willing to leave our comfort zone. Without spoiling the ending, I would dare anyone not to crack a smile as they got to the last page in the story. Inis Reading Guide
