January 2021 Book of the Month
Everyone struggles to cope with their emotions, but it’s especially difficult for young children who often lack the vocabulary to express how they are feeling, even to themselves. Fearne Cotton is both a mum and a champion of mental health and wellbeing and her book cleverly provides children with practical ways to learn about their feelings and through that to understand why they feel the way they do, and to deal with emotions such as anger, sadness and anxiety. It does this through fun and engaging interactive exercises, which allow children to be creative and to play even as they work out what’s going on in their heads. It’s a book that very many parents will welcome and it will be a real boost for lots of children. Congratulations to Fearne Cotton for the lightness of touch she brings, and for keeping it all so friendly and accessible.
Other useful books in this area include the new Happy Healthy Minds series edited by Alain de Botton for The School of Life, and for children even younger, we recommend Eva Eland’s award winning When Sadness Comes to Call and the follow up Where Happiness Begins.
And you can also find a selection of books, to help build confidence and self-esteem, here.
In this empowering journal, Fearne Cotton, the bestselling author, broadcaster and founder of Happy Place, uses practical and engaging tools to guide children to a better understanding of themselves and their emotions. Meet your moods in the brilliant new activity journal for children, by bestselling author and broadcaster Fearne Cotton.

Meet your moods in the brilliant new activity journal for children, by bestselling author and broadcaster Fearne Cotton.
Have you ever felt... Sad... Happy... Angry... Lonely... Worried... Scared... Excited? Or several of these moods all at once? Emotions might seem big and complex - but the more we understand them, the better we can become at managing them.
Say hello to all of these moods in Your Mood Journal , a customisable activity book divided into seven colourful and fully illustrated chapters and packed full of interactive exercises, practical tips and notes from Fearne herself that give children the tools to understand and articulate their emotions. The journal begins with an introduction from Fearne and includes stickers so that book can be personalised.
This is the perfect toolkit for children looking to explore their emotions and build confidence in communicating their feelings. This big book of activities will help children learn about their different moods and how they make their mind and body feel, with lots of space to write, draw, learn, create and have fun along the way!
'This fun, engaging journal is packed full of evidence-based activities to help children explore and understand their emotions. It is a wonderful introduction to emotional literacy, encouraging healthy coping and providing essential building blocks for future mental health.' Dr Jo Mueller, Clinical Psychologist
Fearne Cotton is one of the best known and most popular broadcasters in the UK and is most recently known as the Founder of the wellbeing brand, Happy Place. The brand was created from her first book released in 2017, Happy , which was a Sunday Times Bestseller and a silver Nielsen Bestseller. This was the first in a series of books talking about her own, and some of the not so
positive, experiences with happiness. This was also the premise for her podcast launched in 2018, Happy Place, and has featured an array of guest such as Ellie Golding, Hilary Rodham Clinton, Jada Pinkett Smith, Russell Brand, Gary Barlow, Alicia Keys, and Elizabeth Gilbert amongst others. To date, the podcast
has had over 31 million downloads and continues to top the charts. 2019 saw a further extension of the brand into the live space, with over 10,000 people attending two Happy Place Festivals, one in the north and one in the south of England. The Festival went virtual this year, running over a month. Her third cook
book, Happy Vegan, was published Autumn last year.
Fearne is a mother of two, and step-mother of two, and closely supports a range
of charities - most notably mental health charity Mind, The Prince's Trust and Coppafeel!, the latter of which she curates the charity's music festival, Festifeel.

WOW IT'S FANTASTIC!!!!!
I’m 15 years old and throughout most of my life I’ve struggled with anxiety one way or another. My mum never gave up she made up games, things to help me focus, calm down, and make me laugh. I was diagnosed with borderline Aspergers and severe anxiety at 11. I’ve looked through this book as a child with difficulties and as a teenager starting his GCSE to become a teacher and my overall impression is WOW IT'S FANTASTIC!!!!! There are so many things that my mum did with me like the happy songs (make a playlist) it works!!! I truly wish this book was around years ago when I didn’t know how to explain what was going on in my head and at times still don’t.... Read Full Review
This book is great! I’m really enjoying going through it and doing the activities. It’s making me think a lot about my feelings and that it’s actually ok to have all sorts of different feelings at different times. I think everybody should get a copy of this book to help them.
During this pandemic I have been really struggling with my moods and I am nearly a teenager so I’m getting loads of moods. This book is really good. I love the characters, they are super cute and cool and I think they help to make the book work. It’s really easy to read and the way it explains your moods and why and how to deal with them is simple to understand. I’ve been doing the activities as well. I think they are fun to do and they help you to understand the moods even more. I think this book is really, really great and that all children my age should get given a copy at school....
