Tim was born in Cheshire and moved to Canada at the age of four. He now lives in the wilderness in Ontario, in a house he designed himself, which sits on 76 acres of rough and tumble landscape, the perfect inspiration for The Survival Game.
Tim began his writing career one summer holiday using a rented Smith Corona electronic typewriter. His first book won a prize, and Tim decided “this writing thing might be fun”.Since then, he has won numerous awards including the Canadian Library Association’s Children’s Book of the Year Award three times; the American Library Association Popular Paperback for Young Adults; the Edgar Award of the Mystery Writers of America for The Boy in the Burning House, and the Governor General’s Award, twice, for Some of the Kinder Planets and The Survival Game.
A few little known facts about Tim: - He hit the headlines and gained a place in the Guinness Book of Records by taking part in the biggest author reading ever, when along with J.K. Rowling and Kenneth Oppel he read to an audience of 20,000 at the Toronto Sky Dome. - He co-wrote sixteen songs for the Jim Henson show Fraggle Rock. - He is lead singer and songwriter in a band called Louis the Dreamer.
