This is a humorous Stone Age tale with fabulously fun and colourful illustrations which follows cheeky Esme and her best friend Morris. Cave girl Esme has the kind of voice that's great for keeping big things with sharp teeth away but that isn't so great for keeping secrets. Perfect for reading out loud!
Esme is a small cave girl. She has the kind of voice that's great for keeping big things with sharp teeth away but that isn't so great for keeping secrets, like the plans for Morris the mammoth's birthday surprise. But when the birthday surprise is in danger of not being finished on time, it is Esme's booming voice that brings people together, makes sure the job is done, and allows the party to go with a real swing!
Simon Philip has won various awards with his previous picture books: You Must Bring a Hat (illustrated by Kate Hindley) was the Sainsbury’s Children’s Book of the Year 2016 and I Really Want the Cake (illustrated by Lucia Gaggiotti) was shortlisted for the 2018 Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. His other picture books published by Oxford Children’s include Wanna See a Penguin?, Wanna See a Llama? , and Let Me Do It! Simon’s titles have been translated into over 20 languages.
Simon was born in Chichester in 1988 and has lived there ever since. After studying History at Exeter University, he decided to become a primary school teacher. Teaching rekindled his love of children's books, so much so that he decided to have a go at writing his own.
