When Yak joins Happy Panda's yoga class for the first time, she feels rather anxious. However, having been reassured, she is happy to join in with the other animals, trying hard to take part in breathing exercises and rainbow and tree poses. Sadly Crocodile is rather unkind to her when she loses her balance and does not want to sit next to her during circle time.
Having been paired together, Yak and Crocodile produce an excellent double boat exercise and work well together as a partnership. The class ends with a gentle and relaxing meditation. Illustrated in bright and colourful drawings, this is a great introduction to young children who may be taking part in yoga.
Happy Panda explains what yoga is and why it is beneficial for our minds and bodies before introducing the class to some of the more common yoga practices. At the end of the book, this is reinforced, together with the use of affirmative words, a reminder of how much fun it can be and sensible advice such as working with an adult.
As yoga has become an increasingly supportive tool in self-development and self-care, I think that this book will appeal to many adults who are seeking an appropriate story for young children.
