This tale of daring adventure, a quest to return a stolen jewel and thereby end a generations’ old curse, is even more epic in feel because our heroes are two young rats, Tilbury Twitch-Whiskers and his sister Nimble-Quick. Together, they set out from home to journey over sea and land, taking on fierce cats and even a tiger, facing terrible dangers and shocking betrayal from those they thought they could trust.
Gill Lewis is best known for her superb animal stories but proves herself equally talented at fantasy adventure, the world she creates here completely convincing and full of wonderful, memorable scenes, details and characters. And, as in books such as Sky Hawk , Moon Bear or Scarlet Ibis , she shows us that big hearts and determination are powerful things, no matter how great the enemy you’re up against. A thrilling read!
Can a timid rat ever become a hero?
Tilbury is about to find out on the adventure of a lifetime, journeying across the sea to return a priceless diamond to its rightful owners. He’ll find huge cats and unfamiliar rats ruling the streets and skies, squabble with his gutsy sister Nimble-Quick, and learn shocking hidden secrets of ratkind.
A marvellous adventure begins and a truly intrepid hero is born.
Reminiscent of modern bestsellers like The Umbrella Mouse and classics such as The Rats of NIMH , Moonflight is brim - full of warmth and wisdom.
Sumptuous illustrations by Pippa Curnick bring Tilbury’s world to life, making this a truly special book, destined to become a touchstone story that readers return to again and again.

The story made me think about the value we give to things and why some are thought of as treasures when other things are much more valuable to us in our lives. I really liked the character Nimble-Quick, who stands up for what she thinks is right.... Read Full Review

I literally couldn’t put this book down. I read it in one weekend. My favourite parts were how the plot kept twisting, and then twisting again – so you could never quite guess what would happen at the end. The mood capturing illustrations really bring the story to life. The story shows that rats can be real heroes. Most people hate rats, you may well love them by the end of this tale....
