I loved this charming book. There are 3 enjoyable adventure stories featuring 4 aeroplane friends. Vul, the Vulcan, Spif the Spitfire, Woody, the Tiger Moth and Tom the F14 Tomcat are the main characters in this little group of friends. The book is easy to read and filled with suspense. The simple, striking black and white sketches are captivating and will bring a smile to your face.
The first story is about a race that the aeroplanes take part in. In the second story, the friends meet Anton, the Antonov, which is the longest, heaviest, widest aeroplane ever built. Unfortunately, he is badly in need of some repair work. In the third story the aeroplanes all get to transport a fascinating endangered animal.
The book has lessons for children about friendship, helping others and not being too proud. It demonstrates that we all have something to offer, no matter how different we are. The book is educational, while still being fun and humorous. Children will learn more about aeroplanes because certain words in bold text are explained at the end of the book.
This book is well-worth reading and I highly recommend it for readers from about 8 or 9 years old. Adults will also learn more than a thing or two from the informative glossary of aeroplane terms.

Four aeroplanes fly important missions in which they face challenges, both technical and personal, which ultimately make them more accomplished and experienced. Tom the F-14 Tomcat has a need for speed. Convinced he’s only valued for his ability to break the sound barrier, the mighty fighter jet is determined to win a race to Australia to keep his air show alive.
But when a rival F-15 Eagle tricks him into skipping refuelling, the supersonic plane fears he’s let everyone down as his tanks run empty. Can Tom get help from his talented friends and finish the contest before it’s too late? Woody is a wooden bi-plane who has low self-esteem and feels the other aeroplanes are more capable than him.
But he has a special skill which enables him to help Tom and save the day. In the second story, the team must transfer endangered species to the rescue centre; but who will transport what? Will Woody appreciate size is not everything? But wait, what’s that terrible smell? Spif, the Spitfire, has a strong sense of protocol; he is experienced and knowledgeable and would like to be respected as a historical hero.
His passenger is oblivious to his eminence. Vul, an Avro-Vulcan, is content in his own skin. He has seen it all and is just happy to have survived. He maintains harmony between the aeroplanes of the Flying Circus. But then an Antonov arrives with a mal-functioning landing-gear and Vul’s past haunts him. He devises a plant to rescue the six-engined giant and get him home.
