Deceptively simple and very funny indeed, John Kane’s new picture book is a treat to share with children.
Riffing on the popular memory-game, it presents us with a series of questions and answers, each question repeating – in order – those that have come before and adding another, each answer perfectly logical and deliciously absurd, until at last there’s a final surprise.
Kane won the English 4 – 11 Picture Book Award with I Say Ooh, You Say Aah , and this is equally clever and original. The bright, bold, digitally created illustrations add to the fun and impact.
What is black and white? A penguin. What is black and white, and can't fly? Still a penguin.

From a simple black and white images to pages bursting with colour and action, children will love reading along and trying to find the answer to the ultimate question: what is black and white?' - Alison Bryan, Children's Books Ireland Magazine
When John Kane was younger, he liked to make up stories for his little sister. Jimmy and Bear, who appeared in them, are still remembered to this day. John lives in Dublin, but has also lived in Australia, where he set up Australia's number one independent advertising agency. His first book, I Say Ooh, You say Aah , won English 4-11 Picture Book Award, and we shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards.
