Kelpies, fairies, an imp, you’ll meet them all and more in this magical adventure story.
Callen isn’t thrilled to be moving into the country mansion left to the family by his nan, and it seems pretty creepy, with stone gargoyles at every turn. In fact, the house is a source of magic, as Callen discovers, and he has the ability to wake the gargoyles and bring them to life.
With new mates, Yasmin, her little brother Raf, and Angus, all of whom have made friends with magical creatures, and the help of the gargoyles, in particular the fierce but loyal Zariel, Callen must take on enemies, human and supernatural, who intend real harm.
Tamson Mori’s story is full of excitement, Callen’s new friendships make great reading too, and there are subtle messages about the importance and value of being honest and true. A great new fantasy series.
A crumbling mansion A magical source A living gargoyle
Callen’s Dad has always been secretive of his past but when the family have to move into his childhood home, the last thing Callen expects is a boarded-up mansion covered in gargoyles. It's enormous, the doors are nailed shut, the gardens are overgrown... and long-forgotten magic is returning.
When a disgruntled gargoyle wakes up in his presence, Callen must befriend Zariel and earn her trust before it’s too late. A dark threat is growing in the shadows and only a Gargoyle Guardian can stop it.
"Magic is neither good, nor bad - it simply multiplies the dreams you feed it. Be careful what you wish for..."
'A gripping Gothic tale, bursting with wondrous creatures and mystical adventure, all lit with the warm light of friendship. Another magical hit from Tamsin Mori!' - Thomas Taylor
'Thrillingly original and bursting with heart - a magic-stuffed tale of danger, courage, and friendship' - Sinead O'Hart
Tamsin Mori lives in Bath with her husband, two children, one rabbit, several crows, and a badger, though she still flies home to Shetland whenever she can. If you go there in the summer, you’ll probably spot her, striding about with the wind in her hair, chasing a wild story.
She is the author of the Weather Weaver Adventure trilogy. The first book in the series won the Dudley Children's Book Award in 2021, and was shortlisted for the North Somerset Teacher's Book Award.
