Serving mystery-mad kids a thrilling feast of festive crime fiction, Fleur Hitchcock’s Murder at Wintertide sees a couple of cousins put their heads together to solve a series of murders during a pre-Christmas break.
As soon as George arrives in the house by the sea, he starts joining lots of dots that must be connected. First, a roadside argument. Next the strange lights he witnessed over the cliffs, then a dead body.
After joining forces with his cousin Isla, George makes more vital connections long before the police, though the twist in the tale comes as a huge shock to everyone.
There’s archaeological intrigue and calamity at sea, plus a countdown to Christmas and the birth of a Christmas baby — all of which makes Murder at Wintertide a right royal festive thriller for mystery-loving Middle Grade readers.
Murder and mayhem disrupt a family Christmas by the sea - a perfect thriller to keep you gripped this festive season!

George and his family are celebrating Christmas by the sea. But when a body washes up on the beach, George can't stop thinking about the strange lights he saw on the cliff top... Neither can his cousin, Isla. Together, they follow the clues, and as they draw nearer to the truth, they step further into danger. On land, or at sea, someone is desperate to stop them, whatever it takes. And that someone may be closer to home than they realise...
Fleur Hitchcock writes thrillers and adventures for 8-13 year olds, many of which are mysteries, mostly contemporary, and some historical. With more than 20 published books behind her, she is a passionate advocate for children's reading and enjoyment of books, working as a children's bookseller in Bath and bringing books and children together in schools across the country. She has been nominated for many prizes and has won both the Leeds and Salford book awards. She lives in the Wiltshire countryside, and sets most of her books in the West Country. She is married and has two adult children
Born in Chobham, by an airfield, and raised outside Winchester on the banks of the river Itchen, Fleur Hitchcock grew up as the youngest child of three. She spent her smallest years reading Tintin and Batman under her brother’s bed, and searching for King Alfred’s treasure in the river. She grew up a little, went away to school near Farnham, studied English in Wales, and, for the next twenty years, sold Applied Art in the city of Bath. When her younger child was seven, she embarked on the Writing for Young People MA at Bath Spa and graduated with a distinction.
