Ten-year-old Blessing needs a friend. Her mum is suffering so badly from depression and SAD that she has stopped leaving the house, while Blessing herself has stopped going to school because classmates the Driplet Triplets bully her so much.
What’s more, winter seems to be going on forever; it’s March and the snow is still thick on the ground. Blessing finds a very good if unusual friend in Albert Framlington, one of the snowmen in her local park. Albert might not be as well-informed as he thinks, which is one cause of humour in the book, but he’s a strict adherer to the Snowman Code, article two, ‘a snowman always helps a child in need.’ But Albert has a problem too it seems, and as the pair get closer, it turns out they can help each other.
Despite the wintry setting this comic but poignant story of friendship and the lasting power of love is as warm as can be and guaranteed to melt the iciest of hearts. Albert is a wonderful character, and the story will do for snowmen what Narnia did for wardrobes, ie you’ll never be able to pass one again without hoping it’s a little bit magic.

Simon Stephenson is a Scottish author, screenwriter, journalist and former physician. He is the author of the novels Sometimes People Die (a New York Times Editor's Pick, A Sunday Times Crime Book of the Year, and selected for BBC2's Between the Covers ), Set My Heart to Five (soon to be a Working Title film directed by Edgar Wright) and the memoir Let Not the Waves of the Sea (Winner, Best First Book at the Scottish Book Awards and a Sunday Telegraph Book of the Year). Simon was one of the writers of the critically acclaimed Paddington 2 , and his original screenplay for Luca made it the fastest film to be greenlit in Pixar's history. Simon is currently working on projects with New Regency, Complete Fiction, Lionsgate and 42, among others. Simon lives in Los Angeles, and The Snowman Code is his first novel for children.
