A search for a lost kitten that taps into many children’s keen desire for a pet. I look like a broomstick upside down. Wallace is my jumpy, happy little brother; he's 8. We dream of having a pet, but Mum and Dad keep saying no.
Last Sunday, Wallace and I rescued a kitten stuck in a tree. He had no tag or collar: we named him Pompon. I decided to keep him a secret from Mum and Dad, for just a few days, to prove to them that I could take care of a pet on my own.
When I came back from school the next day, Pompon had disappeared. I started investigating right away. I followed a mysterious old man to a strange factory over the River Thames, but Mum called me back home before I could find out more.
Back home, clues pointed to Manie, our eccentric grandmother who knew about Pompon—could she have betrayed us? Looking for my cat, I even climbed onto Manie’s balcony and nearly broke my neck, only to face an axe murderer. (Spoiler:
