Katya Balen is an award-winning author of books for children. Katya's debut novel, The Space We’re In , was published in 2019 and was highly commended for the Branford Boase Award. Her second, October, October , won the Yoto Carnegie Medal. Her third novel, The Light in Everything, was published in 2022.
When she’s not writing books, Katya likes to scroll through dog-rescue websites, bake, and attempt to keep all her house plants alive. She lives in London with her partner and their dogs Raffi and Mouse.

As an animal lover, Holly was instantly drawn to Mattie’s adventure in helping rescue and care for animals. The book contained a lovely mix of heartwarming moments, fun mischief. The characters mattie, Nate and Zoe, Heinz the dachshund. Mattie lived near the woods and would pretend all the animals in the woods were her own animals. Her friend Zoe had a dog called Heinz. Mattie she found a dog with an injured leg She takes him to the vet where she becomes a vet apprentice along with her friends for the summer. They were really good friends with the son Casper and he helped to look after the rescued animals so they decided to set up Apple Tree Animal Agency.
