Netta Becker and the Timeline Crime is a timeslip thriller steeped in ancient history and Greek myth. Netta and her family are on a special holiday to Crete. Netta’s little brother Remy is particularly excited because he’s fascinated by history and can’t wait to tour the Palace of Knossos, near their holiday villa. The villa owner Oz is full of information about the site, but Netta is missing her friends and competitive swimming, her talent and passion.
But it’s Netta who is suddenly swept back thousands of years to the court of King Minos. She meets and becomes friends with Ari, a princess, and meets her tutor Dae and his son Russ. As Ari and Netta help a group of children escape sacrifice to the monster in the labyrinth under the palace, they discover more about what is going on.
The monster they finally encounter is not what they expect at all and, in a surprise twist, it’s Netta and her fellow young holidaymakers in the present day who are in real danger.
Whether you are familiar with the stories of the Minotaur, Ariadne, Daedalus and Icarus or not, this original adventure makes gripping reading, Minos’ court a place of luxury, intrigue and cruelty, and Ari in particular is a fascinating and inspiring character.
Readers who enjoy this story should look out for The Double Axe by Philip Womack, another adventure story inspired by the Minotaur.
A mysterious labyrinth. A desperate king. A rebellious princess.

Being stuck in a crumbling old villa in Crete with her annoying, history-obsessed little brother Remy isn't exactly Netta's idea of a fun summer holiday. But before she can even get bored, Netta starts having very real dreams where she is dragged back thousands of years to Ancient Greece. Here, King Minos is preparing for the opening of his precious labyrinth, and there are rumours that a monster lurks inside.
As Netta becomes more drawn to the past, her present-day self starts slipping away. Netta and Remy must figure out what is pulling her back before they run out of time - and if they don't solve the puzzle soon, Netta might just become history herself.
Legend and edge-of-your-seat action fuse together in this exciting new time travel adventure. With danger at every turn and new-forming friendships emerging, this middle-grade title is equal parts thrilling and heartwarming, underpinned with an informative feminist retelling of Ancient Greek myth.
