Jack Jackman is a father of three who works as a teacher in Scotland. Before settling in Scotland, he spent his time wandering the world, including a time in Argentina where he, for years, was the most southerly English teacher in the world. Jack used to be a tour guide in a prison, a pianist in a punk rock band, a tester of computer games and even a waiter in Antarctica (penguins do not tip well). It was when he worked in Antarctica he had the opportunity to visit the Halley Research Station (as one of very few members of the public to ever do so). Jack also writes plays which have been performed in Buenos Aires, London and Edinburgh.

I really enjoyed reading Maisie vs the Himalayas. It’s part of the Maisie series, and since I had already read other books about her adventures, I was excited to start this one. I wasn’t disappointed at all – it was just as fun and entertaining as the others!
Maisie is such a brilliant character because she’s brave, curious and always ready to take on a challenge. In this story, her trip to the Himalayas is full of action and surprises along the way, and I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next. The descriptions of the mountains and places she visited were great and the writing was exciting and easy to read, which meant I didn’t want to put the book down once I started. I also enjoyed how Maisie manages to be clever and funny at the same time. I would definitely recommend Maisie vs the Himalayas to other children my age who enjoy adventure stories with strong, funny main characters.... Read Full Review
This is a must-read adventure book. It’s fast paced and it keeps you on your toes as you try and work out what will happen next.
Maisie vs the Himalayas is an amazing adventure book with a slight element of comedy. It is the second book in the series and after finishing it I immediately asked my parents to get me the first book (Maisie vs Antarctica) which I can’t wait to read. Maisie seems like an ordinary girl but she has an extraordinary power - stopping time - well for a few seconds before passing out, but it’s better than nothing! She goes on a work trip to the Himalayas with her Dad “as a punishment” for not keeping her promises. While there they meet Renata, a strange woman who her Dad doesn’t like. And the adventure through the Himalayas begins. I would definitely give this book 5 stars.... Read Full Review
A magical book about finding what is important. A really exciting book to read.
I really enjoyed reading more about Maisie. She has great adventures which are exciting and kept me gripped. There is magic and Maisie learns more about her powers and her family.
