Little Mei and her friend Tiger enjoy an adventure in the snow in this charming picture book.
Mei has to explain what snow is to Tiger who has never seen it before but is delighted to find it tastes cold, “like ice cream”. Mei thinks they should stay in the warm, but Tiger wants to play, so play they do, making footprints, rolling down the hill, having a snowball fight.
When Mei starts shivering, Tiger takes her home where mum is waiting with a big bowl of soup. This is a such a lovely book for the very young, full of vivid experiences, characters who are so like them, and an overwhelming sense of comfort and security in the final pages. The textured illustrations perfectly create the snowy outdoors and the warm indoors, and Mei and Tiger’s big eyes are full of expression too.

Daishu Ma was born and raised in China before moving abroad to study. As a child she spent her pocket money on ‘pulp comics’ and published her first short story, a sci-fi adventure, at 13 years old. Daishu enjoys experimenting with different styles depending on the project, choosing vibrant oil pastels and coloured pencils for her picture books. She now lives in East London and finds endless inspiration in nature and travelling.
Daishu’s playful characters, Tiger and Mei, star in two picture books, Tiger, It’s Snowing! (shortlisted for the BookTrust Storytime Prize) and Tiger, Don’t Worry! , with more adventures coming soon. Both stories are set against the beautiful backdrop of the tea-terraced hills in southern China. Daishu is also the creator of the Ada's World of Fun board books (Walker) and the illustrator of the Chinese edition of the bestselling non-fiction title Seven Brief Lessons on Physics.
