This is a delightful children's story suitable for ages from about three or four up to six or seven. Each page has four lines of rhyming text and a beautiful illustration. Readers can almost feel the exuberant energy of little Ginger, who loves to play all day every day. In an unfortunate turn of events, Ginger is struck by a car and injured her leg very badly.
She spends some time at the vet. She ends up losing her leg and is so sad that she can't play outside anymore. Eventually she ventures out to the park and sees another 3-legged dog at the park still enjoying herself and playing with a ball. The main lesson in this book is to never give up and to just try, and one will be surprised at how successful one can be.
I think children will especially love the last page depicting all the different 'differently abled' dogs: one in a nappy, one with an eye patch, one with a bucket on his head and one with her legs supported by wheels. But they are all enjoying themselves and still taking part in life. A feel-good book with a subtle, but powerful message that will make young and old smile.
