September 2025 Debut of the Month
Young Gloria is the first ever human to attend the Cosmic Cadets Academy and no one is going to stop her from becoming a fully-fledged Cosmic Crusader, though it doesn’t help that she manages to stand on the head teacher, Mrs Hubblegum, on her entry into the classroom …
The rest of her first day is action-packed to say the least as with her new partner, Razz from the Planet Purrl, she takes on a series of missions. Along the way she finds out just why her fellow students are scared of Razz, but nonetheless, the two of them make a great team and even manage to save a planet, if not the entire universe.
This is book one in a new series and if the next books are as funny, fast-paced and as exciting as this one, it’s really set to take off. Gloria and Razz are great central characters and in amongst the fun and hi-jinks are some important, gently handled issues of belonging, difference and friendship.
Gloria is the first ever human to get into the Cosmic Cadet Academy and she's determined to make a splash. But she quickly realizes it might be harder than she was expecting...

On her first day, Gloria goes to class with the headteacher stuck to her shoe (it turns out some aliens are small and squishy) and then learns that no one in the universe except humans eats with their mouth anymore. Partnered up with Razz, a cat-like alien who is way too keen on following the rules, Gloria is desperate for real adventure.
She decides they will ignore instructions and go off on their own mission... to find a uni-korn. Little does she know that uni-korns are some of the most dangerous and foul-tempered creatures in the universe... capable of swallowing galaxies whole. Gloria just might get her wish for adventure... if she doesn't accidentally destroy the universe first.
A fast-paced, hilariously funny debut series set in a vivid and imaginative sci-fi universe. Amid the humour and the fun of the world are gently handled themes of difference, belonging, and friendship with strong female protagonists with a taste for adventure.
Ryan Crawford is a South London born and raised writer, coach, and game designer. When he isn’t creating cruel board game mechanics or helping people make big life changes, he’s dreaming up sci-fi and fantasy stories that absolutely must pass his children’s strict approval process. His lifelong dream is to write enough great books to have his own ‘Ryan Crawford’ section in the bookstore. And he’s also a big fan of obscure anime, brightly coloured trainers, and napping at any time of day.
