Billie Jean Peet is the middle of three siblings who happily live with their Mum and Dad in a house filled with music, joy and love. But unlike her siblings, Billie Jean has no musical talent, making her feel unworthy and alone. When she goes to school and finds herself surrounded by talented and gifted classmates, she feels even worse.
When she’s given the excellent advice to follow her heart and find what brings her joy, things start to look up. Though not always easy, by playing and improving at basketball Billie Jean is finally able to find her inner music and dance to her own tune.
A delightful story about individuality and resilience, told with a gentle rhyme that makes this a pleasure to read and share aloud. Billie Jean is an excellent example for any child who feels panic strike when they’re asked what they want to be when they grow up, her ability to follow her own path and find joy where she can makes her a great role-model.
David Roberts distinct illustrative style, brings colour, a sense of movement, and heaps of fun to every page. With visual references to music and pop culture icons throughout, readers of all ages will enjoy exploring and deciphering his charming pictures.

Andrea Beaty is the author of many beloved children’s books, including the bestselling Questioneers series, I Love You Like Yellow , Happy Birthday, Madame Chapeau , and One Girl. She lives just outside Chicago.
"I was raised in southern Illinois in a town so small I knew everybody and their pets. And they all knew me. I was one of six kids and we spent our summer days traipsing through the fields and forests hunting for adventure. We often found it. And sometimes it found us. Always, it was fun and often, we laughed so hard we blew Orange Crush or Grape Nehi Soda out our noses. I still avoid Grape Nehi . . . just in case. I was a big reader as a kid and LOVED Nancy Drew and Trixie Beldon Mysteries. Then I moved on to Agatha Christie books and then the classics. Don’t tell anyone, but my secret ambition is to star in a Broadway musical and I am often tempted to break into song and dance at very odd moments. Mostly in the frozen food section of my grocery store. They have very good lighting."
