Bonnie begins her adventure to be the greatest ninja the world has never seen. Four year old Bonnie declares “I am going to be the greatest ninja the world has ever seen”. But her six older brothers laugh and say she’s too clumsy, her mother and grandmother ask wouldn’t she rather be a princess, or a ballerina.
It’s Grandpa Noo that offers quiet advice, encouraging Bonnie she can be anything she sets her mind to. The title, Invisible Pumpkins - Sowing Seeds is a figurative one, referring to the start of Bonnie’s journey and the way that Grandpa Noo steadily encourages Bonnie to believe in herself.
Filled with positive wisdom, about the importance of being kind and doing good deeds for others without applause, this is an interesting beginning of a story. Readers will have to wait to see how Bonnie will do with her training in the next book. The digital illustrations throughout are in quite muted, calm colours, which might make this book a relaxing read for bedtime.
The generated character illustrations are cute although Bonnie seems to change size quite significantly which could benefit from being refined, sometimes she’s almost toddler sized and not much taller than the sofa (p22) other times she appears much larger, looking impossibly giant child in relation to Grandpa Noo (p42).
