The second in the Lakeland Mystery series which follows Mae and Isla, sisters who use their own unique style of observation and their ability to communicate with each other telepathically to solve the mysteries in their Lake District town. This story contains intimidating mercenaries, strange messages left on windows and a dark plot including diamonds and the nearby nuclear power station.
I don’t think you need to read these books in order, as both The Wolf of Ennerdale and the first book The Fire on Slate Fell contain standalone mysteries. Mae and Isla once again put their individual skills to work to figure out the strange events in the town, highlighting both their sisterly bond and also the power of teamwork and combining different skills for success.
Uncle Bill is a larger than life character to introduce to the cast, Mae and Isla’s (and Reggie’s) reactions to him can be quite entertaining. The clues for this mystery are clear for any reader to follow so that they can see if they can solve the mystery alongside the sisters. The shorter chapters make for easy reading for younger independent middle grade readers.
The bright illustrations and monochromatic accents alongside the text once again bring the key moments of the plot to life.
