The arrival of Aunt Mary coincides with much of the town falling ill as Mae and Isla stumble on a mystery and a family’s secrets. The Mystery of Chemic Tavern is the fourth in the Lakeland Mystery series of standalone adventures starring telepathic sisters Mae and Isla. In this latest mystery a strange aunt drops by out of the blue to attend an art course, there’s an effort to revive a local brewery and puzzles and clues lead the sisters to uncover the secrets of a famous family.
Mae and Isla’s teamwork once again takes centre stage, as Isla’s artistic creativity and Mae’s analytical mind combine as they decipher the events around them. It’s always entertaining to read them putting the pieces together while the adults remain fairly oblivious to the bigger picture.Corryn Webb’s illustrations always bring a vibrancy to the story, I particularly liked the depiction of the Guy Fawkes incident.
I also found Tom’s introduction really funny, the innocent schoolgirl crush was well depicted and entertaining. With short and easy to digest chapters, this is another great addition for newly independent readers looking for an entertaining mystery series to enjoy.
