It takes the whole story to get Sid near to going to the park, though the final twist in the tale reveals that the trip probably won’t take place after all.
Getting to that point has been great fun though, involving Sid dressing, having breakfast, and – best of all – packing a bag with just one toy (it takes a full page divided into twelve panels to illustrate everything that is selected, including tunnelling tools, treasure maps, and means of flight.) The last-minute trip to the loo is just as entertaining.
With stylish predominantly yellow and blue illustrations, every page is an imaginative adventure and all readers will by swayed by Sid’s ability to turn the most mundane activity into a creative feat.
