The animals were in a funk. The poop was EVERYWHERE. It stuck to paw and claw and trunk, To tail and horn and hair.
Dung beetles love to chew on other animals' tasty poo. But when the monkeys make fun of them for having such a stinky lunch, the beetles decide to munch elsewhere.
What the monkeys didn't realise is that without the beetles, there's no one to clean up their business. And so, the pile of poo grew and grew and GREW.
In this hilarious picture book, Peter Bently imagines what might happen if dung beetles stopped doing their job and shows children that every creature is important to our environment, even those that are small and smelly.
The award-winning author of over seventy books, Peter went to ten schools as far apart as Devon, Northumberland, Germany and Hong Kong. He studied languages at university and worked as a journalist and non-fiction editor before becoming a children's author.
His titles include bestsellers Octopus Shocktopus ! (illustrated by Steven Lenton), which won the FCBG Children’s Book Award 2022 and the Teach Early Years Picture Book Prize 2020; Dogs in Disguise (illustrated by John Bond), winner of the Shropshire Picture Book Prize 2022; Cats Ahoy! (illustrated by Jim Field), which won the Roald Dahl Funny Prize; and King Jack and the Dragon (illustrated by Helen Oxenbury), an American Library Association Notable Book of the Year and shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal.
His bestselling The Great Dog Bottom Swap , illustrated by Mei Matsuoka, has been described as a “cult classic” and was shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize.
When he’s not writing, Peter enjoys visiting schools, libraries and book festivals.
