A detailed, illustrated information book taking readers on a journey from Earth to the far side of the moon and back, with sections on the space rocket launch system and the moon lander as well as what it’s like living in space, this will have huge appeal to young people fascinated by the thought of space travel and the new plans to put people on the moon. The book supposes we’re on a mission to the moon, breaking down every step of the journey into illustrated double pages, clear informative text, much of it presented as speech bubbles from other members of the crew, filling in the details. It manages to be both detailed and accessible, explaining how a spacesuit works and the components of a space rocket (you need to turn the book on its side for that page), and the human side of it is well covered too.
We discover what actual space station crew took with them to remind them of home, and there’s a section on eating in space (tortillas but no sandwiches, too many crumbs). Short of going there yourself – and who knows, some of its readers may in future – this is the best way to learn about moon missions.

With an introduction by planetary scientist Dr Sheila Kanani , the book starts by introducing the reader to their fellow crew members, providing guidance on what to pack, what to wear and how to prepare a space rocket for lift-off (not to mention an all-important briefing on how to go to the toilet in zero gravity). From there, readers will discover how to enter lunar orbit and dock at the brand new lunar space station where they'll be stationed. Mission specialists will then strike out alone to land a spacecraft on the lunar surface, and embark on their exploration of the Lunar South Pole.
