Books that actually make readers laugh out loud are rarer than you’d think, but Too Many Tims is definitely one that will.
Poor Tim has a tough life. His parents – thoroughly horrible people who could have stepped straight out of Roald Dahl – demand he clean their enormous collection of snow globes every night, while also insisting he gets top marks at school and holds down two Saturday jobs.
Well-meaning, quiet, over eager to please, Tim is left exhausted. Then his best (and only) friend Nora, who is something of a genius, has a genius idea: she’ll use her duplicator invention to duplicate Tim. Tim-Two can share the chores, giving the original twice as much free time. Tim-Two is a real help, though keeping him secret from Tim’s parents is a challenge.
When a two-Tim snow globe accident results in even more outrageous demands from their parents, they decide to create another Tim.
Three Tims is possibly too many, especially as Tim-Three seems rather different to the original and Tim-Two, harbouring plans for a Timtopia and for Tims to take over the world.
The story is deliciously ridiculous and allows Henry White to have lots of fun not just with the torrent of Tims (over 2000 at the final count!) but throughout, packing the book with excellent jokes and silliness. Beneath all of that, there’s something of a serious message too as Tim realises he needs to acknowledge all the bits of him that make him Tim. Clever, original and lots of fun!

Henry White is a comedy writer, working in television, online, and most recently in children's fiction. He grew up in West London, began his career in animation, has written and directed adverts for the BBC, worked as a sitcom staff writer, and enjoys penning silly songs for comedy channels. He also has a birthmark shaped like a duck.
