Many young people – and undoubtedly plenty of adults too! – find themselves faced with questions about the future: what they’ll do, where they’ll live, what kind of person they’ll be. Helpfully, this book seeks to address some of these questions in a warm-hearted and imaginative way, by putting forward a series of conversational prompts designed to spark meaningful discussion between children and their grown-ups.
The questions offered are refreshingly expansive – child readers are invited to consider hobbies they might like to try, skills they already possess or would like to acquire, unusual adventures to experience, and – perhaps most movingly – what compliments they would most like to hear from the people around them, with such examples given as “I’m always happy to see you” and “You’re the kindest person I know”. Accompanying text boxes convey an entirely non-judgemental attitude towards children’s potential thoughts, choices and reactions, affirming that it’s equally valid to prefer the idea of having a few close friends rather than a large group, or to stay closer to home rather than travel the world.
Who Will You Be When You Grow Up? forms part of Bloomsbury’s Let’s Talk collection, a series of conversation starters for children and their teachers or caregivers, written by a PSHE expert and designed to supporting children’s emotional wellbeing and personal development. This warm and inspiring book would make an ideal companion to titles such as You Can! , When I Grow Up I’d Like to Be ..., and If I Were Prime Minister .
From bestselling early years author, Molly Potter, Who Will You Be When You Grow Up? invites young children to imagine the type of person they will be in the future and is perfect for starting conversations about hopes, values and aspirations.

‘A must-have for both the primary school library and the classroom. These are big ideas for small children, but Potter presents them in a way that encourages understanding and discussion with trusted adults.
