Marcela Ferreira was born in Rio de Janeiro and spent her childhood between the beach and her grandparents’ farm. She moved to London as a teenager and had to quickly get to grips with a whole new language (tough times!). The experience was transformative.
Being bilingual means a joyful interest in tongue twisting stories, as well as how country and culture affect the tales we tell. Unsurprisingly, her stories tend to focus on friendship, growth, change, and being yourself - though funny ones are her favourite.
Her debut picture book, The Queen Next Door was shortlisted for the Waterstone’s Illustrated Book Prize 2024. She is also the author of The Treasure, Bear Vs Dragon and I Could Be Eaten By a Shark .
