In the deepest, darkest forest, where the trees twist gnarled and wild, along a winding path we find . . . a deep asleep Green Child.
Meet the Green Child, guardian of the seasons and protector of our planet.
As winter shifts into spring, the Green Child rouses from slumber and breathes new life into the world. Through ever-brightening days, she ushers in the changing seasons until summer finally arrives. But as the days grow hotter and longer, the forest begins to wither away. The Green Child realises she has a job to do: to send a message to all of mankind . . . but will anyone listen?
Told in lyrical rhyme, this timeless modern classic celebrates the cycle of the seasons, sparking curiosity about the natural world and inspiring a new generation of environmental heroes.
Perfect for eco-conscious families and young nature lovers, this is a gentle reminder to respect and live in harmony with our planet.
A magical tale that will inspire everyone to treasure our natural world.
‘A gorgeously illustrated modern fable, combining gentle rhyming text and collage-style artwork with a timely environmental message.’ – The Bookseller, Children’s Previews 10 Titles Not to Miss in August
'A beautiful book with a vital message.' – Nicola Davies, Children's Laureate, Wales
Hollie Hughes is the author of many much-loved picture books for young children, including the bestselling, award-winning The Girl and the Dinosaur , illustrated by Sarah Massini. When not scribbling away on picture book texts, she occasionally writes stories, poems and plays for older children and grown-ups too.
Previously a youth worker and higher education lecturer, Hollie is a regular contributor at festivals and events and runs writing workshops for both children and grownups alike, working in schools and prisons all across the UK.
Having three children of her own, she is perfectly tuned in to the reading habits and tastes of young children. Hollie lives in Essex with her family.
