This is an interesting, twisty story with a confident main character. The move to Cornwall means that the reader learns about the setting of the story alongside Ottillee, with plenty of Cornish terms to learn and familiarise yourself with. The secret legacy of Dragondah Castle may also inspire young readers to look into the ancient history of the area and its rulers.
The setting of Dragondah, isolated and rugged, surrounded by nature and cut off from the internet and TV, creates the perfect atmosphere for a mystery of lost royalty. The truth is coming to light but there’s still more to uncover in future books. I think that this is a promising start to the Dragondah series and will appeal to mystery hungry middle-grade readers.
